October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, as you likely know. Maybe you don’t know that this terrible disease has affected my family personally since 1992 when my mother was first diagnosed. I was only seven years old at the time, but I vividly remember her being sick. Thankfully after some time, and a clinical trial that saved her, she went into remission.

For years she was seen regularly with mostly good results, but in 2007, we found out it had metatastized to her spine. With excellent care, and a lot of prayers, it was mostly slow growing. However during a check-up spinal scan in 2014, they detected two small tumors in her brain, due to some blind luck of the scan going higher up than normal– of course this meant the cancer had metatastized once again.

My mother is my everything. She is strong, resilient, selfless. Full of faith, love, and strength. Breast cancer has been a part of her story, and my family’s story, for 25 years. As you can imagine, I want nothing more than to see this horrendous disease eradicated.

Many companies take advantage of this month to promote products, but not all are backing it up with action. When I was approached to work with Cape Cod Potato Chips, I was impressed that their limited-edition Pink Himalayan Salt & Red Wine Vinegar Potato Chips would give back 5% of the proceeds (up to $25,000) from each bag purchased to the Susan F. Smith Center for Women’s Cancers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the end of the month. As a bonus: these are incredibly delicious. I am a diehard fan of salt and vinegar chips so I am very picky and these are legit the tastiest ones I’ve come across. I will be stocking up for sure!
