Arguably my biggest spending category isn’t shopping (what up, going out?), but I have been realizing how $10 here, $25 there, really does add up. While I try to maintain some form of “one in, one out” rule and donate items I am no longer using, I still have a LOT of things.
.
My favorite part of “fashion” is actually style. I am a mood dresser and not one to pick out outfits in advance. Often my outfit posts you see on Instagram were put together the very morning the photos are taken. The biggest thrill for me is pulling together pieces, some years old, in a way I never have before. The creativity aspect fuels me. So what better way to embrace that creativity and style than to shop my (considerable) arsenal of clothes, accessories, and shoes?!
.
When I mentioned it to Natalie, she was all in. We wanted to open it up to our community and the response has been greater than I could have hoped! Now in addition to being more mindful of my spending, and challenging myself to put together new looks, I am super pumped to be doing this alongside women who I admire. Our motivations all vary slightly, but I have been inspired by their parameters and reasoning and it’s made me more excited for this experiment.
.
Truth be told, I am a little nervous too! Our society and consumerism go hand in hand. But isn’t that all the more reason to see how it goes? I am not doing this to punish myself, or to hurt the economy who no doubt will miss my online shopping habit (ha!), but see it as an experience.
.
My parameters:
No clothes, shoes, accessories, or beauty unless replacing something necessary (shampoo, tights, etc). Groceries, toiletries, gifts do not count. I will still be spending on going out (for now– maybe a future month idea…?), but I am attempting to limit buying coffee or lunches during the week which is an area I overspend in for sure.
.
I am going to be keeping notes and will share the good, bad, ugly, and honest at the end.
.
If you’d like to join us, it’s not too late!

Hello lovely lady! I would love to do this, I am guilty of the bored Amazon shopping spree and my closet is bursting. Starting today, I’m going to try it.
Wishing us all luck with this,
Bee

A+++++ job putting this together, but you already knew that.
I’m like you in that I dress to my mood, so I’m preeetttyyy doubtful this beige + white + denim capsule wardrobe experiment is going to last very long. Eye roll.

My amazon cart has been very empty… I should really just stay off all internet haha.
Also, I’m a mood dresser. It’s hard for me to plan outfits! Thank you for organizing this girl!

I did this in January and am continuing through February! It was hard at first, but I was over the jump after the first couple of days. I have way too many clothes and this has really been helping me see what I wear. Also, I hate winter, so why buy more terrible winter clothes like sweaters and pants that I don’t really want anyway? Haha! Give me all the sundresses and sandals! I have been using the Stylebook app to track what I’m wearing and it’s so useful. Will make it really easy to see what to put in a consignment bin when spring arrives and just tote it directly to the consignment shop next fall without opening!
