Nautical Gin asked several influencers to offer their own spin on a gin gimlet. Being a gin lover, as well as a fan of friendly competition, I readily accepted.
.
I love lavender anything, so I decided to make my own lavender simple syrup for a fun twist on a traditional gimlet, which I have dubbed the Lavender & Lime. It pairs extremely well with Nautical Gin’s unique botanical profile and I hope you’ll give it a whirl! The name is also an homage to my two favorite colors– purple and green (don’t tell pink, blue and yellow though).
Did you know culinary lavender was harder to find than I’d anticipated? Finally I stopped into a spot that’s been on my list for awhile, Penzey’s Spices, and lucked out. I may have also left with three other treats– definitely worth a visit!
I followed a combination of recipes I found online, but it’s actually very simple (get it?).
.
Lavender Simple Syrup:
2c water
2c sugar
2tbsp culinary grade lavender (not a sachet!)
.
- Put all of the ingredients into a saucepan; bring to a boil
- Stir continuously so that the sugar melts
- Remove from heat; let steep for a half hour (keep in mind, the longer it sits, the more potent the lavender flavor becomes– a little goes a long way)
- Strain out the lavender buds
- Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks
Lavender & Lime:
Bar wear –
shaker/cocktail spoon
chilled martini glass
.
Ingredients-
3oz Nautical Gin, chilled (not necessary, but I love my drinks ice cold)
1oz* lavender simple syrup
Juice of a lime*, additional for garnish
.
- Shake (or stir all ingredients with a cocktail spoon) with ice, pour, and serve!
*Feel free to make adjustments based on personal preference. Less simple syrup and/or more lime juice can make a difference in the sweetness.
.
Do you have any fun ideas for a spin on a traditional gin gimlet? Do tell!
*Thank you to Nautical Gin for partnering with me on this post! As always, all opinions are my own.*
